Download OpenTX 2.2.3 Firmware
We are going to use OpenTX Companion to download the OpenTX 2.3.3 firmware. First we need to enable some features to ensure that we can run lua scripts.
Open OpenTX Companion 2.2.3 and power on your radio and connect it through usb.
Click on settings and then click Settings…
Here is where we need to set a few options for our firmware download. Make sure you have the right model selected for your radio under radio type (1). Under Build Options, check noheli(2), lua(3), flexr9m(4). Near the bottom check the box beside Append version number to FW file name(5). Click OK.

Click the Download button from top menu.
Click check for updates
A dialog box will prompt you to download the firmware now. Click Yes.
Save the firmware to your computer as “opentx2.2.3.bin”. If you do not reduce the amount of characters in the filename, you will not be able to update the boot loader. We will be using this file to flash the firmware to the radio and update the boot loader. Make sure you know where you saved it. In our example we saved it to a folder on the desktop named x-lite.

Click OK.
Set Radio To Bootload Mode
Power on your radio in bootloader mode. If you are not sure how to do this click here for x-lite, x9d, qx7 instructions. In bootloader mode on your radio, you will see something similar to the below image.
Connect your radio to your computer. The screen on your radio should change to the following.
Flash New Firmware
In OpenTX Companion click Write Firmware to Radio button.
Click the load button
Select the file you downloaded several steps above and click open.
Click Write to TX
The new firmware will begin to install.
And eventually complete.
Click Close. Unplug your radio from your computer. Your radio in the bootloader mode should reflect the new version installed.
Update SD Card Contents
Open OpenTX Companion. If you have multiple radio profiles make sure you have selected the correct one. Click the download button in the top menu.
Click Download SD contents button.
Depending on your radio (X9D, QX7, X-LITE, etc…), you are sent to a website that contains zip files. Download the one with the date that is most recent. In our example we are sent to the x-lite sd contents download. The latest file here is sdcard-taranis-x7-2.2V0018.zip.
Unzip the file contents into a folder on your computer. The files you unzip from this zip file will replace the contents of the sd card in your radio. In our example we are going to extract the zip file contents into a folder called new SD contents.
Open OpenTX Companion 2.2.3 on your computer.
Power on your radio.
Plug in your USB cable.
When your radio prompts you to select the USB option, select USB Storage (SD) and hit enter on your radio.
On your computer you will have two new removable drives show up. The drive letters will vary from computer to computer. In our example, F and E drive are now present.
The drive that we want should have contents similar to the following. In our example, E drive is one we want. We know this because it has a file called opentx.sdcard.version in the root of the drive. If you have not backed up your SD contents, do so now.
Select all of the files and delete them from your sd card.
When the deletion of the files is complete, leave that empty window open and open the folder where you unzipped the new sd contents. You should have two windows open. Your empty sd card and the new sd contents folder.
Before You Copy
Before you copy the SD contents to your empty SD card, browse the new SD content folder you unzipped. Copy the file we created above, opentx2.2.3.bin into the FIRMWARE folder on the new SD contents folder. This is for updating the bootloader.
Your SD content FIRMWARE folder should look like the below.
Next, go into the SOUNDS folder on the new SD contents folder. In the SOUNDS folder, remove any languages you do not need. This will drastically reduce the amount of time it takes to copy the SD contents folder onto your SD card.
Copy SD Contents To SD Card
Select all of the files, right click and copy them.
Right click on the sd card window and paste. The SD content files will start to copy over to the SD card.
When the copy is complete, you have finished updating your OpenTX radio to 2.2.3 and you have updated your SD contents to the latest version.
Update BootLoader
This is an optional step to update the OpenTx bootLoader to 2.2.3. In a previous step, we copied the firmware we flashed to our radio, to the FIRMWARE folder on the SD card.
With this file in place, start up your radio and navigate to Radio Setup. Go to page 2 which is the SD card contents.
Select [FIRMWARE] hit enter on your radio
Select the opentx2.2.3.bin file we copied over.
Long press ENTER on your radio to bring up the menu for the bin file.
Select Flash bootLoader and hit enter on your radio.
When flashing the bootLoader completes, you will be looking at the FIRMWARE folder of the SD card in your radio.
To confirm that your bootLoader was updated, restart your radio into bootLoader mode. Notice the version of the OTX BootLoader.
You have completed the upgrade process for your OpenTX radio.
